The Trump Administration is promoting discrimination of trans people, now through the Department of Urban Housing & Development’s announcement stating it would be “rolling back the Obama-era Equal Access Rule” established to originally enforce housing programs that receive federal funding to house people based on the gender they identify with. This active targeting against trans people is disgraceful. Last month, Trump’s Administration removed protections requiring medical providers to treat transgender patients.

Trans YOUnitng & other advocates E-mailed executive leaders at UPMC, Gateway & Highmark inviting them to share public statements ensuring transgender people are protected when accessing medical care right here in Pittsburgh & we have received NO RESPONSE.

We believe the University of Pittsburgh & UPMC have moral & ethical obligations to denounce these guides as inaccurate to ensure the protection of transgender & non-binary community members. Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf’s LGBTQIA Statewide Commission has also shared minimal response to our efforts and needs to be more visible, vocal and proactive. It is imperative we focus on housing as healthcare for trans & non binary community. Individuals not actively in the spotlight are in dire need of support. We ask folks join us by:

– Sharing, following, donating & supporting @TransYOUniting
– Attending TransLED Community Conversations, Actions or Virtual Events
– Sharing www.transyounitingpgh.org with friends, family & local businesses as a resource for transgender & non-binary community

Pleased join us on July 31st for a public demonstration of our support for transgender people having equal access to healthcare & housing in the United States

In solidarity,
